![]() ![]() Your seat will never move but the flight dynamics of the plane are close to the real thing and good for practice.Ī real plane is not flown with a keyboard. There are other simulators out there (X plane) that have the ability to make very real simulations. I have not flown an SR22 yet but I would imagine they dont handle like they do in that sim. While the sim has basic pitch up and down, bank and roll functions it does not feel anything like flying a real plane. There are full moving sims out there for pros but in the home market, unless you are this guy you are only going to get so much realism. There are lots of issues with home based simulators and realism. The flight dynamics in Google Earth are not what they would be in a real plane and I would never expect that. I am a pilot and a big fan of simulators as they are a great tool but they are just that, a tool. But keep in mind that google most like had a few people make this as a fun little addition to google earth I don't think its intended to be a realistic simulator. Google Earth is nothing like any of them in almost any respect.Īs mentioned in the other answer the first main gaps are the HUD which an SR22 does not have to my knowledge and the flight dynamics which don't seem real. I've done the same in a glider, and I have done some take-offs and landings in a fairly amazing full (though static) commercial 737 simulator with full cockpit reproduction (all seats, panels, motorised levers, switches etc that you'd find in a real 737 cockpit, wired to a large rack of computers). I'm not a pilot, I have sat in the pilot's seat of a small Cessna and manipulated the control-column and rudder to make a few turns and attempt to maintain speed and altitude under the direction of a pilot. It's hard to really feel oriented in a simulator when your sense of balance and peripheral vision tell you you are sitting upright at your desk, not inverted and spinning towards the ground. In Google Earth you don't hear any engine, you dont feel any vibration, you don't feel any turbulence, you don't feel anything in an uncoordinated turn or when pulling out of a dive, you don't feel the unevenness of a runway. Moving a throttle lever is completely different to pressing PgUp and PgDn buttons to move a throttle position in increments Feel Moving a mouse involves completely different muscles and different motions. With a control column you have a much different sense of the position of the controls. Waving a mouse around is nothing like moving a control column around. In Google Earth you don't have anything like the range of controls that have to be used, where are all the switches, knobs and other dohickeys you find in the real SR22? Also in a real SR22, there is important stuff to look at below the windows. I'm pretty sure the SR22 cockpit windows would take up a much greater area of my vision than my computer screen does. Here's a few dissimilarities that occur to me. It would be easy to focus solely on the last of these, but from my perspective this is not really the most important. aeronautical characteristics of aircraft.effects of wind, weather, turbulence, rain, ice.mode of operation of pilot aids like autopilot, autothrottle.I believe there are a number of important ways you can measure realism from a pilot's perspective: How realistic is Google Earth Flight Simulator? The support for taking off from a real airport is rather limited, but it's there. Interestingly, Google Earth allows you to fly beneath the surface of oceans, and it flies exactly the same as in the air. Quite unstable (aileron always moves by itself). Max vertical speed: 155 knots (287.06 km/h).Max speed while falling down: 550 knots (1018.6 km/h).Max altitude (from highset starting point): 60000+ ft (18288+ m).When I'm very high, it's difficult to get control of the aileron. Flies rather stable, I can do some aggressive maneuvers without any problems.Max speed while falling down: 1450 knots (2685.4 km/h).Max altitude (starting from the highest google earth let me start): 80000 ft (24384 m). ![]() Max altitude (starting from ground): 46200 ft (14081.8 m).I included some stuff I personally tried. Sometimes I like to fly a bit in flight simulator in Google Earth (not the Pro version), and I was wondering how realistic it is.

Since the process is not as well defined as true freezing, some believe (incorrectly) that glass may still flow even after it has completely cooled, but this is not the case. ![]() ![]() Molten glass is extremely viscous and approaches infinite viscosity as it solidifies. Some fats like butter or margarine are so viscous that they seem more like soft solids than like flowing liquids. Pastes, gels, emulsions, and other complex liquids are harder to summarize. Most ordinary liquids have viscosities on the order of 1 to 1000 mPa s, while gases have viscosities on the order of 1 to 10 μPa s. The viscosity of water at 20 ☌ is 1.0020 millipascal seconds (which is conveniently close to one by coincidence alone). Viscosity is first and foremost a function of material. 1 fish, 2 fish, red fish, blue fish 1 stokes, 2 stokes, some stokes, few stokes. Fish is the most immediate example of a aword that behaves like this. The stokes is a rare example of a word in the English language where the singular and plural forms are identical. One square meter per second is equal to one million centistokes. 1 cm 2/s =Įven this unit is a bit too large, so the most common unit is probably the square millimeter per second or the centistokes. One square meter per second is equal to ten thousand stokes. A more common unit of kinematic viscosity is the square centimeter per second, which is given the name stokes after the Irish mathematician and physicist George Stokes (1819–1903). This unit is so large that it is rarely used. The SI unit of kinematic viscosity is the square meter per second, which has no special name. Capillary viscometers will be discussed in more detail later in this section. When two fluids of equal volume are placed in identical capillary viscometers and allowed to flow under the influence of gravity, the more viscous fluid takes longer than the less viscous fluid to flow through the tube. It is frequently measured using a device called a capillary viscometer - basically a graduated can with a narrow tube at the bottom. Kinematic viscosity is a measure of the resistive flow of a fluid under the influence of gravity. The other quantity called kinematic viscosity (represented by the Greek letter ν "nu") is the ratio of the viscosity of a fluid to its density. The quantity defined above is sometimes called dynamic viscosity, absolute viscosity, or simple viscosity to distinguish it from the other quantity, but is usually just called viscosity. There are actually two quantities that are called viscosity. Ten poise equal one pascal second making the centipoise and millipascal second identical. The most common unit of viscosity is the dyne second per square centimeter, which is given the name poise after the French physiologist Jean Poiseuille (1799–1869). The pascal second is more rare than it should be in scientific and technical writing today. Despite its self-proclaimed title as an international system, the International System of Units has had little international impact on viscosity. The SI unit of viscosity is the pascal second, which has no special name. Or if you prefer calculus symbols (and who doesn't)… F ![]() The similarity to Newton's second law of motion ( F = ma) should be apparent. The more usual form of this relationship, called Newton's equation, states that the resulting shear of a fluid is directly proportional to the force applied and inversely proportional to its viscosity. (dynamic) viscosityįormally, viscosity (represented by the symbol η "eta") is the ratio of the shearing stress ( F/ A) to the velocity gradient ( ∆ v x/∆ y or dv x/ dy) in a fluid. Fluids resist the relative motion of immersed objects through them as well as to the motion of layers with differing velocities within them. Informally, viscosity is the quantity that describes a fluid's resistance to flow. |
